Some Nigerian football supporters have reacted to the Super Falcons’ defeat by South Africa in a 2027 Women’s World Cup play-off encounter on Thursday.

DAILY POST reports that South Africa defeated Nigeria 2-1 in Morocco to qualify for the intercontinental play-off.

Thembi Kgatlana and Refiloe Jane both scored to give Banyana Banyana a 2-0 lead.

Christy Ucheibe scored a consolation goal for Justin Madugu’s side via a penalty.

The defeat means the Super Falcons will not take part in the Women’s World Cup tournament next year in Brazil.

Reacting, some Nigerians called for a total overhaul of the Super Falcons as they wondered how the team became so bad within a year.

Others criticized Super Falcons coach, Justin Madugu for his tactics. They called for his sack.

Here are some comments gathered by DAILY POST on X:

@Sexymelissa431, “I regret supporting this Nigerian Super Falcon. Na only TikTok dem sabi, if you want lose shey na xenophobia country you suppose lose to? You no get shame. May I just go to sleep right now?”

@Amac1306, “Total overhaul, new coach and his crew should scout for new players. This set of players should now rest and enjoy their past glory.”

@Retr0Zavage, “How did the Super Falcons become so bad in the space of a year?”

@chidinnadi730, “Ajebade, Oshoola, Odega, Madugu, should retire after this. They are so horrible.”

@Trinityter7, “The Super Falcons played this WAFCON with the confidence that they were unbeatable. But African football has evolved, and the Falcons have learnt a bitter lesson. Quarter-final exit. No automatic World Cup qualification. No World Cup playoffs.”

@andrestrechy, “If @Nff don’t sack this clueless Magudu of a coach, e no go better for them.”

@olubunmi4ever, “When you are starting Ordega after such a long time, you know that’s as confused as coach could be. No tactics, no pattern, no strategy. Just looking for runners like a headless chicken.”

@SisoChukwuemeka, “This is definitely not the Super Falcons we used to know. Madugwu needs to be sacked immediately, and the entire team needs to be disbanded. All the oldies need to retire asap! A whole 10x champion fell at the Quarter Final stage…and at the first play-off hurdle.”

@sholamcintosh, “What an absolutely disgraceful outing. This is one of the worst times in Nigerian football history because I can’t remember how bad things have been like this before. 50% of this female squad should never return to wear the shirt. As for the coach, what a terrible job from him.”
