The Lagos State chapter of the City Boy Movement has been inaugurated with a pledge to mobilise youths and grassroots supporters across the state for the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
The inauguration, held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 in Ikeja, Lagos, attracted political leaders, traditional rulers, local government chairmen, youth leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking at the event, Ogunlewe said the inauguration was not merely about establishing another state chapter but also about mobilising and empowering Nigerian youths to become more responsible and actively involved in national development.
He expressed appreciation to the founder of the movement, Barrister Oluwaseyi Tinubu, for what he described as his commitment to the country and responsible leadership.
“Today is far more than the inauguration of another state chapter. It is about mobilising and empowering Nigerian youths to be more responsible and committed to the development of the country,” Ogunlewe said.
He noted that youths constitute a significant proportion of Nigeria’s population but are often disengaged from civic and political activities.
According to him, the movement’s activities would extend beyond electoral politics to promoting national unity, discipline, lawful conduct, constitutional values and youth participation in national development.
He said that the movement would support the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu and urged young Nigerians to participate in the initiative.
“Every youth in Nigeria is welcome into the group. Our strategy is to campaign across the country, reaching every ward, community and polling unit. We will go to communities and every part of the state,” he said.
Ogunlewe stressed that the movement’s vision extended beyond the 2027 elections, noting that it was also focused on bringing young Nigerians together, promoting educational advancement and creating opportunities for long-term development.
He added that members of the movement were committed to the Constitution and would promote unity, integrity and grassroots mobilisation.
Also speaking, the National Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Tosin Shoga, described the inauguration as a significant step towards building a stronger platform for youth participation in the country’s political and developmental process.
Shoga said the organisation had been working on strategies to establish a formidable structure in Lagos State and other parts of the country.
“Today is more than an inauguration. It is a moment to talk to ourselves about how to build the future of the country. We came for a serious mission in Lagos State,” he said.
He thanked the founder of the movement for his vision and expressed support for the leadership of President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
According to Shoga, members of the City Boy Movement would work to communicate the policies and programmes of the Tinubu administration to Nigerians at the grassroots.
“The City Boy Movement has become a vehicle that carries the Renewed Hope Agenda to every corner of the country. Our mission is to bridge the gap between the grassroots and the government and ensure that the people are mobilised to support the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.
He urged members of the newly inaugurated state executive council to serve with integrity, discipline and excellence, adding that leadership should be measured by the impact made on people’s lives.
The Director-General of the movement for local governments and Chairman of the Conference 57, Hon. Sesan Olowa, who is also the Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, said local government chairmen in Lagos State were committed to supporting the initiative.
Olowa expressed confidence that the movement would contribute to the APC’s electoral efforts in the state.
“We will leave no stone unturned to ensure President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory in Lagos State,” he said.
The National Secretary of the movement, Tosin Odufuwa, said members had decided to become actively involved in politics and national development.
He expressed appreciation to the leadership of the movement for providing young Nigerians with an opportunity to participate in political activities.
The Co-Patron of the City Boy Movement, Amir Kashim Shettima (Jnr.), commended members for their commitment and urged them to remain focused on the objectives of the organisation.
“I want to thank all of you for the hard work you are putting into this movement. It is meant to make the country more comfortable. I want you to continue to put all efforts into it and keep on working so that we can be victorious,” he said.
The Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Community Engagement, Moremi Ojudu, urged members of the movement to take the message of the administration’s policies and programmes to communities across the country.
Ojudu highlighted infrastructure development, increased allocations to sub-national governments and investments in education and healthcare as some of the areas she said reflected the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
She urged the members, whom she described as the foot soldiers of the movement, to remain committed to grassroots engagement.
Also speaking, the SSA to the President on Community Engagement in the North-West, Hon. Abdullahi Tanko Yakassai, said support for President Tinubu was gaining momentum in the North.
He cited initiatives such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and infrastructure projects as examples of programmes he said had impacted Nigerians.
Yakassai urged members of the movement to communicate the administration’s policies to Nigerians across the country.
The South-West Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, Hon. Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala, charged members to conduct themselves responsibly as representatives of the movement.
He said the organisation was focused on youth participation and empowerment, adding that members would be assessed based on their contributions to the movement.
Alao-Akala also stated that the South-West had set a target of securing eight million votes for President Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
“We in the South-West promised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu nothing less than eight million votes, and you are the ambassadors of those votes,” he said.
He urged members to remain disciplined and focused on achieving the movement’s objectives.
Representing the Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, the State Vice Chairman, Hon. Moshood Maiyegun, said the City Boy Movement could provide a platform for greater youth participation in politics and governance.
Maiyegun urged young people to work with experienced political leaders to understand past challenges and contribute to building a better future.
He commended Ogunlewe and the local government chairmen for their support, urging the movement to continue its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
He also called for stronger collaboration between the APC and youth groups in Lagos State.
The event featured the screening of a documentary highlighting the objectives and activities of the City Boy Movement.
Popular Nigerian artiste, 9ice, also entertained guests with a musical performance.
Those present included the Director-General of the City Boy Movement in Lagos State and Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Barrister Moyosore Ogunlewe; National Director-General of the movement, Mr Tosin Shoga; Founder of the City Boy Movement, Barrister Oluwaseyi Tinubu; APC Lagos State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, represented by the State Vice Chairman, Hon. Moshood Maiyegun; as well as local government chairmen and other political leaders.
The inauguration marked another phase in the expansion of the City Boy Movement’s political structure in Lagos State, with its leaders pledging to intensify grassroots mobilisation and youth engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
